Hey All - We are trying to decide if we want to try to do our core dev in Kotlin instead of Java and would love to chat with someone (via voice by preference) who has lead a team that built and deployed Kotlin services in a production environment where those services are a core part of your company (not just small, side projects but literally your product would not function/be successful without them). Would like to understand pros and cons of the choice, biggest issues the team faced etc. Based in San Francisco, CA but can work with your timezone.

Hi. At my last client, myself and @s4nchez were lead Devs on migrating a relatively large (top 1000 globally) website from Java to pure Kotlin backend (with first Kotlin heavy prod deployment in summer 2016). We switched the server tech as well since that time, and several other teams at the same client have also gone all in on Kotlin. TL DR - everyone is very happy and we’ve had essentially zero prod issues due to the switch of language, other than a couple of NPEs that were bugs anyway. Always happy to answer more detailed questions about it - but maybe when London is properly awake :)

Hey, at my current company, we switched from nodeJS to Kotlin for the implementation of a particular system. We're pretty satisfied with the way things are turning out. Additionally, it's been super easy for new people on the team, to adapt to Kotlin. Additionally, some features like null safety help avoid some rookie mistakes. Incase you want to chat, I'm based in Mumbai, India
