I doubt anybody would work on this until API is stable

You would just have to implement https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-framework/blob/master/spring-web/src/main/java/org/springframework/http/converter/AbstractGenericHttpMessageConverter.java. There are a couple examples in that package that would make it fairly easy
