It's working because `de.mannodermaus.gradle.plugins:android-junit5:1.0.11` introduced a fix for it (albeit a hacky one) - it's the same workaround outlined in <https://github.com/spekframework/spek/pull/296> but in a plugin form.

and I think the android team are working on a definite fix for it. <https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/64804587#comment21> - for some reason the mention ticket is not public.
