It will not answer all your questions, but projects Artem listed are great examples similar to what we do. Internally we use JUnit 4 runner on a JUnit 5 platform 1.0.0-M4, mostly because IJ reliably supports only JUnit 4 across all its versions. M5 broke our tests in a way, so yeah.
