I was in the conference talking about scala vs kotlin, but this keynote did all the work much better than I did...

Actually, kotlin wasn't mentioned that much, just about less than a minute in total. kotlin mentioned at 6:15 that it surpassed scala, brief mention of the kotlin-website at 24:20 and the last one is just a slide "Kotlin Playbook" that he doesn't talk about at 35:14, so 99.9% is about scala

Probably you're right, it was what I recalled from the talk. Still interesting for that feed in my opinion

Picture worth 1000 words was 33:52 - 34:25
Conclusion was: Scala sucks as OOP language, so let Kotlin be a better Java and focus and improve Scala FP part (or even screw Scala, go Haskell)

Yeah John ruffled quite a few feathers, Adriaan for sure and probably Martin although he probably knows better than arguing back now
but it’s pretty damning that the main goal of Scala is to blend FP and OOP and John is basically saying nobody wants that

He basically suggested that Scala should get out of the Kotlin way ("If you want a better Java, choose Kotlin") and move towards Functional Programming (sacrifice OOP part of their community)
