Is Dokka abandoned? Not really much activity going on. Is there an alternative to Dokka out there, I haven’t been able to find anything
c
No, Dokka is not abandoned. Releases tend to be large and infrequent, but it’s taking especially long now as they’re working on a pretty major rewrite of it.
r
Which branch is that rework being done on? Is it complete enough to limp along with?
c
I don’t know the state of it and if it’s workable, but I think
dev-0.11.0
is the integration branch for that rewrite. You’d likely need to build and install it locally, I’m not sure if it’s producing snapshots anywhere
However, for generating more complete documentation sites, my project Orchid integrates with Dokka to provide most of the features you’d want on top of the raw code docs, like wikis, blog posts, changelogs, etc. https://orchid.run/

Yeah, Rob Fletcher (Strikt) is my teammate… love the docs orchid generates, but I’m just looking for the barebones javadoc solution.
Thanks for the help. While I’ve got you - I don’t suppose you’re aware of any communication / progress that I can track for 0.11.0?
c
Ah, got it. From the little I’ve seen around the rewrite, support for the different formats should be greatly improved. With the integration work I’ve done with Orchid, the internals of creating and maintaining the output formats is really difficult, and that should be one of the main goals for the rewrite

I’ve had a couple talks with some members from the Dokka team, and I read through the commits from time-to-time, but i’m not aware of any public roadmap or anything. I think @Kamil Doległo would know a lot more about that

If you’re looking for big project that use dokka. Arrow also uses Dokka to generate it’s website (in addition with some more tools 🙂) https://arrow-kt.io/
