I am also one of lucky ones that got right answer by relying on data being "good" ( https://www.reddit.com/r/adventofcode/comments/a8s17l/2018_day_23_solutions/ecdbr1i ). Would be interesting to get some input that fails to produce correct answer.

Thanks for this! I played around with your code and it works for my input. I noted that the problem statement included this line:

nanobots which fly around the cavern, apparently assembling themselves into a very specific formation

so I wonder if the intention was for us to inspect the input visually and "notice" something about it that would guarantee a bisection along these lines could/would be sufficient. 🤷‍♂️ Skipped creating a solution of my own because I am most underwhelmed by the ambiguity in this one 😕
