Hey folks, I have created a new Mastodon instance for kotlin.social. Here there is a link with 50 invites: https://kotlin.social/invite/QUoFtpek. After that I believe signups need approval, but still finishing my Ph.D. in Mastodon administration. Feedback welcome!

Do you know if by any chance I can join with another Mastodon account? (I've got an account in https://fosstodon.org), also, I guess it would be great if the Kotlin instance was federated with that one (as Kotlin is FOSS itself) or others related to software development. Please excuse my ignorance, as I'm new in the Mastodon network myself

I honestly have no idea, still learning how Mastodon works 😂. I can try to federate with FOSSTODON

The easiest way of thinking about mastodon or other federative networks is "it is like email". I mean, you can have your account on any mail server and to be connected with others just via email addresses

So, if you have your account already it is enough. There is no reason to be part of the kotlin server

if somebody on that instance follows your account, you will show on on that instance's federated timeline

Thanks for the clarification folks!

for example, you can see how https://androiddev.social/public contains some posts from that instance itself, but also many posts from other instances - those are being followed (or otherwise interacted with) by users on that instance

Ok, I understand now, I've got my account and that is my address. And then I can follow users of other instances no matter their instance without having to create more accounts. However, I guess I can only explore content of the instance my account is in (and its federated instances), Thank you all... the email analogy was an eye opener! 🙂
