Yup, the nice part about Compose is that the same set of tools are available to any library developer; there's no special casing or hidden APIs that only Navigation Compose has access to.

The new BackHandler API added in Activity Compose 1.3.0-alpha02 should make it even easier to integrate with things like the system back button: https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/activity#1.3.0-alpha02
