Any idea when Compose will be production ready? I am starting a new project and first customer review is December 2020. Should I start it with Compose, or ...?

Google’s plan is to release it in alpha/beta - production ready - on the next year
So it should be release before your CR, but imho: no.
Changes are planned and expected.

So you might find yourself in September with the need to refactor the entire app 😛

Absolutely not: they plan to release firsts alpha/beta (read = not stable) next year, so I wouldn’t start developing on compose now.

@Alessandro Mautone they actually said that next year they plan to release it production ready
There’s a lot of libraries in beta which are production ready

On one hand that’s true… Everything is in beta nowadays 😕 😅 Anyway, my point was more about:
Compose
is not even out, and you cannot plan your product having such a risky dependency that could be released next year (that potentially includes December 2020, right 😛 )

@Alessandro Mautone Agree he should not work on that, but I’m sure they will announce it in one of the events they have, I/O or Android Dev Summit, they won’t wait til December 🙂

The project is quite big, the first customer review is in Dec 2020 ... the first official launch is in Dec 2022... So I know its a gamble to start with Compose, but I don't want to find myself 1 year in the project .. that we switch to compose 🙂 ... thank you for your answers

rewrite will happen anyway. either from Views to compose or with every time compose introduces a breaking change. I guess your project is more important than the framework. @Ionut Costan stick to the known and make sure you get there in time 🙂 3 years is a long time and you have a product to look after

Compose will be around for a good while, you don't need to rush. 🙂 But please do give us feedback on the things that we could do that would make your project easier
