We had ideas like this but there went basically nowhere. We tried to do things like agree on a domain name or GitHub organization which in my opinion were distractions. The real questions for a community of library authors what for? How would it benefit its members? How would one realistically contribute something meaningful in the sharply limited time that we have? How would we communicate? ...

how would a domain name or a GitHub org help? do you mean transferring the projects with maintainability issues there, so that anyone interested in helping a project in need would go there and pick one?
I think of this initiative as a centralized and curated place of saying “hey, please help me with this library if you find it important for you or the community”. True there are people with very limited time (like you and me) but there are also people having free time, looking for projects to contribute
