That's what happen when I run any compose demo on wayland/gnome. If I move the window, the black bar disappears.

What Java version are you running with? That might be a Java bug.

I do not have this issue using wayland/gnome but i am using xubuntu and the wayland/gnome setup is a little bit messed up.
