I'm getting Could not connect to Kotlin compile daemon and e: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.sun.tools.javac.util.Context. Does it have any connection to the issue or problem on my side?

About the ClassNotFoundError issue: Java upgrade broke the path, so tools.jar wasn't in it anymore for me. Fixed it.

Indeed it looks like KT-17944. Does it work if you specify open fun getProtocol in the header class?

I can't say anything certain about timeframes at this point, but in any case, the multiplatform projects work is entirely experimental and thus is not aligned with our release cycles. E.g. if it doesn't make it in 1.2, it can make it into 1.2.1, so you wouldn't have to wait a long time for the next major release
