If somebody want to start an Open Source project based on Kotlin/Native (and possibility some multiplatform features), it would be interesting to know the upcoming IDE (https://kotlinlang.slack.com/team/U3SK5B492) will be free of use for that use case because I think this is a key point for adoption by the Open Source community. Any chance to have some info about that?

Practically speaking, MPP code could be developed even in existing free IDEs, that’s the whole point of MPP. Regarding free Kotlin/Native IDE we cannot make any announcements or statements.

I’m developing my MPP project using AS and invoking Gradle from the command line. I do have it setup so that I can just push a button in the toolbar as well but I prefer the terminal. I also have a pretty nice setup using VSCode. A lack of a free Kotlin/Native will not hinder me.

I guess it depends of people and projects but for the kind of project I have in mind it would be blocking. I am wondering if JetBrains could at least provide free licenses for Open Source projects like for IDEA for an IDE that allows to develop for Kotlin/JVM, Kotlin/JS and Kotlin/Native without limitations. To compete with Go and Rust that matters.

@sdeleuze we provide OSS licenses for all our products and I don’t see this changing moving forward, neither for existing products nor for any potential new ones.

Nice to hear I was not sure about the scope
