Just reviving this channel: I would love to see an online KotlinConf 2021 kotlinconf , with content from both JB and community. Is that something that folks at JetBrains are looking into?

We currently don’t have plans to have a KotlinConf online. Whether or not we’ll have some other event I can’t say, but KotlinConf in principle will be back once we can hold it physically. For us KotlinConf isn’t just about content. It’s about actually gathering together, meeting each other, making new friends and meeting existing ones.

I'm guessing we'll get a Kotlin 1.5 or 1.6 Online Event (maybe upgraded when it comes to community interaction) if there's no possibility to make a physical KotlinConf in this 2021 year.

I don’t think 2021 will be possible TBH. Not for KotlinConf, not for many conferences

You can probably make it happen in a place where the Sun is always up and killing the virus, like in La Réunion Island, maybe in a country in Africa, or another place. We'd book one entire plane per continent blob thinking upside down

You mean like Malaga? Although we’re having record infections, so much about the sun killing it

I mean between the tropics. Malaga is well above that zone, and the weather is really different (and colder) compared to La Réunion Island, one of the few France belonging lands that isn't affected by the otherwise nationwide curfew (6PM since last weekend) and periodic lockdowns during the non Summer season.
Right on the tropics seems to be ideal to limit spread: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-54418613 I'm not sure it's a good idea to do, but if that becomes a reality, I'll do my best to ensure I'm never too close to people, and I'll be very happy to meet folks from the Kotlin community.
