For anyone who has heard the buzz about ChatGPT but hasn't seen what it can do yet; here's an example of a whimsical K Kotlin-based conversation between myself and the AI (although it is capable of very much more than coding). What's striking is just how conversational the interaction is(!) as though this were a coworker... My prompts are in italics, everything else is generated by the AI 🐶 Animal Hospital 🏥

Controversial in what sense though - as a provider of answers to Stack Overflow? Nobody claimed it was suited to that purpose from the outset. It has been provided as a Technology Preview, and nothing more. I find it a little exasperating when people project their own specific expectations on a technology, and then use its failure to meet those expectations as a reason to dismiss it outright. I think focusing on it's shortcomings is a pitiful way to miss the great opportunities and even joy in exploring this technology which, to my eyes and most others, has landed here in a very novel form.
Agree with SO's decision FWIW, it's an abuse of the tech preview to cut & paste it's output as answers.

I personally think the danger is similar to the one SoF has: in the wrong hand, it can cause damage. you just don’t copy/paste everything that you find on SoF, but that requires a certain base-level. my worries with advertising novel approach too early is that they end up harming less-knowledgeable people who don’t understand the pitfalls and fine-prints and just jump on the hype. in the hand of an expert who can evaluate good and bad of a proposal, it can be a great tool, but I would like more care, you cannot control how people actually use the tech preview
you can also argue that in general anything good can be used poorly, but I think with tech we could a little bit more careful. anyway, not deriding the project or your passion, if anything good will come out of it, it is because people like you helped pushing it
