Out of curiosity: why the Compose Multiplatform plugin generates a new project with the Multiplatform module called “common” but Kotlin Mobile plugin generates it named “shared”? Is there any distinction between these two, or just naming?

It is just a name, nothing special.

Because it was done by different teams. Tooling is an extra story. Of course everything should be aligned consistently one day.
