If you allow me a little bit of philosophy tonight, I’d say before Kotlin the general consensus was that nullity problem is immanent property of the (programming) world. You have to accept that “null happens” and then deal with it. After Kotlin, many languages are moving into null-safe direction with whatever they can do with their legacy. I don’t know and don’t have a proof of cause-consequence here, may be just a point in time and Overton window moved enough.
