<@U31UH0CTT> I tried Scala about 5 years ago when I just started with Java, didn't even know about functional programming back then, so for me it was about as crazy as writing perl. 
Considering I was just starting out with Java and had 0 FP experience and understanding, it's not fair for me to judge it based on 5 years ago experience.
I believe Kotlin will be complicated as well, unless you have solid Java experience in which case it becomes easy to pick up.
The barrier to entry for new devs getting on the JVM is getting bigger and bigger each year.
