Hello mentors, I recognize I am late to looking into applying for GSoC, as I just heard about this opportunity through Android Developer's LinkedIn page. In the past, I have always been intimidated by contributing to open source as I didn't know where to start; however, thanks to the helpful documentation/resources provided by this program I have learned quickly. The "Support Android target in kotlinx-benchmark" project caught my attention due to my experience with Android development (certified as an Associate Android Developer). However, I have already committed to a full-time SWE internship with USAA this upcoming summer. I understand this program is 12+ weeks with projects averaging 175+ hours, would this program not be suitable for a candidate, like me, already working full-time as a SWE intern? Thank you for any and all guidance/advice given.

Hi! You are right on time. The GSoC contributor application period started on March 18 and runs until April 2 - 18:00 UTC. https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C04N1T126DU/p1710957890010769

Hi @Evan Bain, It’s great to see your interest in the “Support Android target in kotlinx-benchmark” project. I’m concerned that balancing a full-time SWE internship with the GSoC program might compromise your performance in both efforts. Therefore, my advice would be to proceed with your internship this year. We would be happy to welcome you next year when you might have more time to dedicate to Kotlin GSoC projects.

@Abdurrahman Salah ad-Din Thank you for your advice and timely response. I will be taking your advice and have recently already recognized the time commitment would not be feasible. I hope to gain the experience and time required to be apart of this program next year. Thank you.
