With the current design is it possible to implement a jsonpath annotation? Being able to just specify the path would be a huge improvement over having to create a dedicated serializer in my case. I would attempt implementing it myself but I don't really understand the internal workings. maybe someone could help me with that

Yea, 4 years since initial creation. I would try doing it myself but I'll need some advice on where to start
