Does fleet cleanup old IJ backends?
z
It should, yes. Are you seeing a bunch of backends sticking around, or just asking out of curiosity?
e
I see multiple BE folders in fleet folder
message has been deleted
z
How old are these backends? They should be cleared out after a month of not being used / not belonging to the latest version, iirc
e
I don't run fleet often. But run today
Oke, just checked and indeed all folders are just less than month old
Takes 15Gb of space not the biggest consumer on my mac
z
So probably working as intended then, if it bothers you file a ticket requesting the customization of the cleanup period 😄

Why is Fleet keeping multiple IntelliJ IDEA backends? Are there situations where it'd use an old one?
z
I think (not sure, educated guess, maybe someone from the team will correct me) that it's a different version of the backend for each Fleet version. So you get a new one every time Fleet receives a patch release perhaps.
l
Then the old one should be removed as soon as the old Fleet version is removed?
z
Yeah yeah, I see what you're saying. I'm sure there's a reason for cleaning up based on time, I'm just making guesses here on how it works 😄
l
Is the reason "It's always been done that way"? 🙃

Quoting @Titouan Bion: A user does not necessarily use the two last version of Fleet. One could be using any valid version, e.g. sometimes you cannot control the workspace’s version if your company is the one setting up the remote environments, but you use the latest on your local machine, so the two versions you would be using are not consecutive necessarily (same if you keep connecting to your colleague that does not want to upgrade their Fleet, etc.).

Similarly, if there's something in a newer release that goes wrong (hopefully doesn't happen with public versions of course), it could be pretty annoying to redownload the previous version from scratch when you roll back
e
Haha, and if that is wrong then you have previous as well. Anyway that is not the last 16 Gb of the space on my laptop.

If I understand correctly, and judging from the screenshot, it's currently keeping 4 versions, where only the last 2 should be kept?
