Hi, I am started playing around with CMP a few months back with AGP 8, now I migrated to AGP 9 where the android app is being extracted to it's own module. As I am using also developing a desktop app. So I was wondering shouldn't the desktop app has it's own module so all follows the same pattern? even though it is a kotlin and it will be deployed on the JVM.

We'll soon be adopting a default structure that creates a separate app module for each platform. You can take a look here: https://github.com/Kotlin/kmp-wizard/tree/all-frontends-shared

Of course you don't need to follow the wizard's structure, you can organize your project as you prefer
v
Can you guys remove the assumption that the iosApp is at the very top, and the only one?
z
@Valeriy O. What do you mean? iosApp is structured the same way as the other platforms here.
r
@zsmb, I know that I could set up my structure, but as I am just starting I want to understand the reasoning but looking forward the wizard update
v
@zsmb as I understand, iosApp has to be at the top of the repository for Android Studio plugins to recognize it and auto-populate the iosApp run configuration. I tried.
z
That's unexpected, this should definitely work in the latest versions, as we're planning to use a nested
iosApp
folder in some cases (when a server module is added) in updates to our structure. This is in Android Studio Panda 3, so the latest stable release, iOS is picked up as expected:

I just tried with Panda 3 RC1 and it didn't work for me. Any idea why?
z
I'd suggest going to the stable Panda 3 release (there's already a Patch 1 too) and seeing if that works. Otherwise, if you're still seeing the issue there, please file an issue https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/newIssue?project=KMT
v
I tried with a new wizard project, and it worked. I should try again with my real project. By the way https://kmp.jetbrains.com/ is seriously out of date.
z
Yes, the templates in that repo are ready to use. They will soon be adopted by the wizard itself (as explained in more detail in the readme of that repo).
v
This is awesome, thank you guys
r
@zsmb thank you! Awesome, I will use for the new project
