I like the language, but the tooling really tries its best to fend off users 😞
n
I avoid the early access program because I want stability more than the bleeding edge
d
@natpryce Do you know what year JetBrains Kotlins plugin will come out of early access?
n
There are two release channels: stable and early-access. If you are updating the plug-in from the early-access channel you’ll get development releases which can be unstable. If that’s not what you want switch to the stable channel
d
Unfortunately just a bad joke by me, considering the kotlin plugin has been crashing every day since I started using it in december last year, and making writing code feel like swimming in honey. 😞

I think this is just a perfect example of one persons bad experience doesn't necessarily leak out to others. I've never encountered any of your problems and I feel very sorry for you, but you seem to be an outlier in this case.

Never had such issues myself. Working with kotlin for 4 years now on both, Windows and Linux versions of IntelliJ. Smooth sailing all the way so far.
n
I have had problems with interference from other plugins. IntelliJ doesn’t isolate plugins from each other, so one plugin can corrupt data used by another. In my case, I had to disable the Haskell plugin to get IntelliJ to run reliably.

Try invalidating intellij indices and cache or plain reinstalling

@Big Chungus Such solutions should remain as jokes in series like The IT Crowd, but you're right, it does "help" from time to time.
