I am creating a Kotlin Community within my company. What are good rewards to give away to coworkers who start using Kotlin in their projects, or are doing good within the community? Suggestions would be nice 🙂
Also, is there a swag pack available to order somewhere?
l
I think every dev love stickers to stick to their laptops

Cheap to make and fun to receive

I still have a few (not many left) from KotlinConf, need to get more of those 🙂
But I’m looking for more ideas than just stickers 🙂
l
Sure!
I really like cups. I have a Kotlin one that I really like

Is getting to use Kotlin over any of the alternatives not reward enough? 😄

I guess the most popular reward you could have is free pizza for the kotlin team meetings

I like those! Pizza is always nice of course, but cups are a great idea 🙂
@LeoColman where did you get the cup, and how does it look?
@tddmonkey nice one 😉

I’m not kidding! 10 minutes of “look at all the code you don’t have to write in Java” should be enough to have most devs frothing!

I'm not sure where the cup is from, got it as a gift. It's a plain white microwavable cup with
Kotlin
and K printed

@tddmonkey unfortunately that’s sometimes not enough. TBH I know of two projects where only Java is used, simply because everyone of the (big) teams + contractors know it. It’s easy to get someone interested in Kotlin, it’s harder to get someone to actually use it, and it’s even harder to get a whole team/project to use it.
Which is why I want to give a home to those that are already interested and get some projects over 🙂

In my company I'm convincing people to use Kotlin by organizing some Dojos and introducing them to #C18FWPKKL , easing the migration test by test

I mean, your choice, but to me it feels like bribing (maybe not the right word) and it sets a precedence: the next guy who wants to push haskell just need to give bigger prices. I am also trying to push kotlin more in my company, but cannot force on others and that is honestly one of the beauty of microservices: they want to use java, they can. And the beauty of kotlin is that you can write kotlin code in java projects, so if you really want you can write kotlin everywhere. Dojos and stuff are a better approach than prices imo

@thanksforallthefish I thought about that as well, and in the long run I think you’re right. Intrinsic motivation is always better than being motivated by rewards. But a few goodies for colleagues would be cool nonetheless - and if it’s just to spread the word and getting other colleagues interested (‘Oh, what’s that?’)

Explain the benefits, and offer a 💰 bonus to those who jump, or Legos 😄

Stress balls with K logo. See how less and less they reach to them as they adopt Kotlin 😉
