Not dumb, you 1) are learning or 2) have found a problem in the tutorial or 3) a combination of those.
Regardless, it is always so much easier to help/evaluate (new to Kotlin here so I can't help much myself I'm afraid) if the one wanting help/comments shares the actual code. Then other people can test run it and have a much easier time helping out/participating in the discussion. Also, kindly promoting the use of Slack threads here 🙂
