We are going to bring Kotlin to Tango controls (https://www.tango-controls.org/) next year. Not the same but close.
b
Oh SCADA cool. Yeah my stuff is more directed toward analytical, biotech, pharma, academic, not really industrial scale equipment
a
I think tasks are quite similar. In fact I've written quite a lot laboratory data aquisition and control code in kotlin, so I would be really happy to cooperate in this matter. I intend to bring some new people into this.
Tango is also mostly used by experimental physics by the way.
b
Do you have that on a repo somewhere?
yeah my stuff is really basic, I just needed to control that one device the way I wanted for an experiment.
(done that in the past with much more complex systems too)
a
Yeah, but it is unmaintained at the moment and is not really documented: https://bitbucket.org/Altavir/numass/src/dev/numass-control/
But last few years it was running the whold slow control and analysis on Troitsk nu-mass experiment (https://arxiv.org/abs/1504.00544). And some code was used by my phd student on singnal processing.
did you find that sterile neutrino?
a
If I had, I would have Nobel prize already. Only the uppel limit.
b
hah
a
ThyroCont is the latest addition. They have a non-standard way to calculate checksums.
b
I have no idea what a sterile neutrino is. I kind of grasp what a neutrino does (meaning it doesn't interact much with matter)
a
Well, sterile one does not interact even with things regular one does 🙂
b
not enough for all our vacuum needs (we have stuff at 10-6 up to 10-7 mbar
wait how would you detect something that doesn't interact? by the fact you can produce it and it doesn't interact with anything?
a
Different model, we measure down to 1e-9, but the protocol is probably the same
We measure mixing of starile neutrino with regular neutrino. It causes some anomalies in the specturm. I read some popular lecture about that, but they are in russian sadly.
I would gladly make a short seminar in english if anyone is interested. We can even do it here in slack.
Or in space?
b
should do a kotlin in science virtual conf
Also what would it mean to bring kotlin in tango?
and second question, would tango be open for other kind of research instruments
a
Let's start several additional threads 🙂
