# compose-wear
a
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.refect.hue4wear It’s finally here 🙌 If anyone has Philips Hue products, would love any feedback. This is my first Jetpack Compose application, and the application is 100% Compose. The initial build is somewhat limited, but still offers full [local] control over all of your Philips Hue lights (on/off, color, and brightness). I am opening a beta track tomorrow and will be releasing automatic bridge finding, color temperatures, groups/rooms, scenes, and remote auth soon! Watchface complications, Tiles, and Hue Entertainment integration are also on the way 💡 Much thanks to this community! (If this kind of content isn’t allowed, I can remove this post)

The screenshots look great.

I’ve been thinking of doing this for a while, well done for building it 👏
@Austin Nelson would love to get subscribed to the Beta, happy to provide feedback 👍

Would also be interested in joining beta

The Play Store tells me my TicWatch E3 isn't compatible?
🤔 1
a
@louiscad The Play Console says the TicWatch E3 is supported. Do you know what Android version you're running?
l
WearOS 2.33, System H MR2. And my phone where I viewed the listing is running Android 12
Also, I'm in France, in case you didn't let all nations on the globe access the app (but the message doesn't seem related to that)
I'm wondering if there's not a Play Store app issue when there's no phone app available
a
That's what it is! Let me add France to the list of supported countries!
👏 1
j
I see same thing here btw (from Ireland)

l
Why didn't you check the "all countries" checkbox?
👍 1
a
Just did, though it will probably take a few hours for review 😕
p
Unavailable on Galaxy Watch 4, too?
a
@pmatthews Are you in Canada or the US? Those were the initial available countries. It should be available for all countries soon!
The two devices I tested on (that I currently own) are the fossil sport gen 4 and galaxy watch 4

UK
a
Sorry everyone for the country mixup 😕

I'm waiting for the lights to "turn on" in here, but I don't have any Philips Hue. However, just yesterday, I lent a Ticwatch C2+ to a friend that does, so I can't wait to see it working on their wrist

Still waiting on review for countries, but also just released an update for open beta (also in review) Here’s a video of the app in action: https://kotlinlang.slack.com/archives/C02GBABJUAF/p1641600373014500
l
Once the countries change review is complete, you can think about adding the video in the Play Store listing since it's supported 😉

Good call!
p
I can’t see if it’s included, but definitely a Tile would work great for this experience
a
Tiles are on their way! I’m excited to try the new Glance API for Tiles!

Feedback welcome

I"m still getting "This app is not available for any of your devices" ....is that expected? (I have a galaxy watch 4)
a
The app is still In Review. Not sure what's taking so long. I already have 2 updates ready to go. Does WearOS apps take longer to review than regular apps? Even if the changes are just updating the country list?
k
Shouldn’t take longer for actual review, but if you publish on other tracks (including internal test) it enqueues a new submission for Play Store review and may take longer.
1
l
BTW, why does adding countries require a review?
a
k
@louiscad in most cases it doesn’t require app (apk/aab) review. Submission is a snapshot of all app packages from available tracks + listing metadata (such as description, screenshots, countries etc). So in case of target countries changes only metadata is reviewed unless there are any pending/ongoing reviews for app packages.
a
@Kseniia Shumelchyk I've been doing a Closed Alpha Track (mainly for my distribution testing), and open beta, and a production release. Though the morning if launch when I found out about the country issues, I updated countries for Closed Alpha Track and Production. Is it because I had two tracks that this is taking longer than usual?
k
@Austin Nelson In principle yes since all app packages need to be reviewed, on practice - it depends, in many cases only diff is reviewed. And probably worth putting a disclaimer that I’m not speaking on behalf of Google Play team, their processes are much more complex, the explanation is based on my experience 🙂

a
@louiscad @John O'Reilly It looks like the review was accepted. Any luck?
j
yeah, seem to be able to install now....will try it out a little later

Same message for now on my phone
Still showing as not compatible @Austin Nelson 🤔
a
@louiscad Not sure why it's still not showing as compatible 😕 I just released an update with a lot of bug fixes and some new features, though the review process has been around 3 days. I also published to an open beta, but I'm not sure if other tracks are working on Android Wear? I might just have to publish straight to production.

Okay, so there's an issue with the Play Store: It still shows the same "Your device isn't compatible with this version" message when I click on the link of this thread on my phone. On computer, the WEB version is fine, showing that some of my devices are indeed compatible. If I search on the Play Store app from my phone for "Wear Hue", I don't see your app in the results, since indeed, my phone isn't compatible. It's only if I click on the "This device" chip, and then select "Watch", that I see it (and it's then the first result), and then, when I open the listing, I see the priced button to buy it. The Play Store needs to be fixed to show the device selector so that at least when I click the link, I see a device selector or something for apps that are only available for the Watch, with no phone companion app.
Ideally, by default, the Play Store search results on the phone would include all apps, and show compatibility info with all our devices (just like the WEB version), and allow to install on the watch straightaway.

I've had similar issues with the Play Store. I installed the app via the Play Store on my watch no problem. But if I go into the Play Store on my phone I see the Install button with the dropdown and the ability to install it to my phone and watch - even though it's not compatible with my phone, and it's already installed on my phone 🤔 And if I go to the listing on the Web, it shows it as installed.
k
Sorry to hear that you’ve faced such poor experience @louiscad @Austin Nelson , I was able to repro the problems you reported and filed several issues against Play Store team: (1) bug for incorrectly recognized standalone WearOS app (covering both odd drop-down with phone version issue and ‘This phone isn’t compatible with this app’ message that you got), (2) I was not able to complete purchase initiated from the watch and (3) request for better discoverability for standalone WearOS apps. It’s possible that all these are already on Play Store team’s radar, but as you can imagine any changes in much massive infrastructure take time. For (1) if you continuously face ‘This phone isn’t compatible with this app’ message, cleaning Play Store cache usually help to get rid of it, though it doesn’t solve the original problem ofc.

Thanks so much @Kseniia Shumelchyk! The good news is my review times have dropped drastically! I submitted an updated to an open beta channel last night at 5:30pm and it was live this morning at 7:30am! I tested the update and promoted to production and at 4pm it was live!
